Interpreting Audio/Video Recordings and Logs

چکیده

Our experience using a combination of audio/video (A/V) recordings and logging to study long-term use of a computerized whiteboard illustrates that these techniques can provide insights into the use of applications. Logs captured information about the users’ actions in a form that supported automatic queries. A/V recordings captured information about the user’s goals and the system’s responses that informed our interpretation of the logs. Ultimately, we discovered that defects in the logs made it impossible to answer many of our questions. We were unable to use the A/V recordings as a substitute for the missing information in the logs; the cost of capturing and analyzing the data was too great. Based on our experience, we propose a set of guidelines for implementing logging that may lead to better results in future efforts to combine these techniques.

Passing the Baton: an Experimental Study of Shift Handover

Shift handovers occur in many safety-critical environments, including aviation maintenance, medicine, air traffic control, and mission control for space shuttle and space station operations. Shift handovers are associated with increased risk of communication failures and human error. In dynamic industries, errors and accidents occur disproportionately after shift handover. Typical shift handove...

Recording and Understanding Mobile People and Mobile Technology

We present an approach to recording and understanding the activity of people moving and interacting with each other via technologies such as mobile phones and handheld computers. Our focus is the combination of observational techniques, usually based on video recordings, and system–based techniques that log or instrument the technologies in use. At a higher level, we explore tools to allow soci...

Establishing a gold standard for manual cough counting: video versus digital audio recordings

BACKGROUND Manual cough counting is time-consuming and laborious; however it is the standard to which automated cough monitoring devices must be compared. We have compared manual cough counting from video recordings with manual cough counting from digital audio recordings. METHODS We studied 8 patients with chronic cough, overnight in laboratory conditions (diagnoses were 5 asthma, 1 rhinitis...

Does the recording medium influence phonetic transcription of cleft palate speech?

BACKGROUND In recent years, analyses of cleft palate speech based on phonetic transcriptions have become common. However, the results vary considerably among different studies. It cannot be excluded that differences in assessment methodology, including the recording medium, influence the results. AIMS To compare phonetic transcriptions from audio and audio/video recordings of cleft palate spe...

Multimodal HALEF: An Open-Source Modular Web-Based Multimodal Dialog Framework

We present an open-source web-based multimodal dialog framework, “Multimodal HALEF”, that integrates video conferencing and telephony abilities into the existing HALEF cloud-based dialog framework via the FreeSWITCH video telephony server. Due to its distributed and cloud-based architecture, Multimodal HALEF allows researchers to collect video and speech data from participants interacting with ...
